The Lakewood Police Department is investigating after two people were found shot dead inside a home Sunday morning, followed by a police pursuit that ended with the suspect dying by suicide.
According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victims have been identified as 35-year-old Richard Eastin of Cleveland and 33-year-old Amanda Leigh Wakut of Lakewood.
According to Lakewood police, officers were called at approximately 4:26 a.m. on June 21, to 2115 Chesterland Avenue after a man contacted his ex-wife and claimed he had shot two people at the residence and intended to kill himself.
When officers arrived in the area, they observed a pickup truck leaving at a high rate of speed. Police attempted a stop, but the driver fled, prompting a short pursuit that ended in the area of 1280 Warren Road.
Authorities said the suspect exited the vehicle with a handgun to his head and refused commands from officers attempting to de-escalate the situation. Within approximately three minutes, the man shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Stephen Davis, a 45-year-old man from Fairview Park.
Officers then responded to the Chesterland Avenue residence, where they found Eastin and Wakut shot in the kitchen. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
