PENFIELD, N.Y. — Marcus A. Merriman, a respected business executive, U.S. Navy captain, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 82.

Born and raised in Monona, Iowa, Merriman attended Iowa State University, where he graduated with honors in Industrial Engineering and earned a commission as a Naval Ensign through the ROTC program. He later obtained a master’s degree in Engineering Administration and built a distinguished career in both industry and military service.

Merriman spent much of his professional life with Eastman Kodak, eventually serving as Director of Manufacturing for the Asia, Africa, and Australia region before retiring in 1986. Alongside his corporate career, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 32 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. Colleagues remembered him as a leader of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to service.

Family members described Merriman as a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He and his wife, Anna, shared 55 years of marriage and raised five children together. Friends and colleagues recalled his warmth, intelligence, strong faith, and dedication to helping others.

A longtime member of his church community and a supporter of educational and charitable organizations, Merriman left a lasting impact on those who knew him. His legacy continues through his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his leadership and service.
