Clyde shared 72 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Joanne Patterson Zonker, who survives him. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and adventure. Throughout his career in education, Clyde served as Director of Special Education in three northeastern Ohio counties before becoming Superintendent of the Willoughby-Eastlake School District and later Superintendent of Chardon Local Schools.
A devoted man of faith, Clyde was an ordained minister who served in church-planting missions and pastored several congregations. He lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to sharing the Gospel. Clyde proudly served his country during the Korean War and was stationed in England. He was active in many community organizations, serving as President of Kiwanis and participating in Rotary Club activities in Ohio, as well as the Spruce Creek South Ohio Club in Florida. He especially enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends and neighbors during game nights.
Clyde and Joanne shared a love of travel that took them around the world. Their adventures included visits throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, and all 50 states. Clyde particularly enjoyed the thrill of white-water rafting in West Virginia, Colorado, Alaska, Canada, and on the Zambezi River in Africa. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Junebelle Ultican.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne; his sister, Beverly Collin; his daughters, Janelle Stefancic and Janette Stanley; and his son, Samuel Zonker. He was a proud and loving grandfather to five grandchildren, great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandfather to two great-great-grandchildren.
